[REVIEW] SD BB Senshi Sazabi

Greetings! Welcome again for another review! I've built lots of kits lately so what better way than to make reviews out of them? Today we have the SD Sazabi from the OVA Mobile Suit Gundam Char's Counterattack. It's the last mobile suit piloted by the legendary Ace Pilot non other than the "The Red Comet", Char Aznable (or Casval Rem Deikun).

Two weeks ago, I went to the Gunpla EXPO Philippines 2017, and I was really dissapointed with the event. Though there is something to be happy about but I guess the only ones that are happy are the assholes from Ban Kee trading. It wasn't really an"Expo" for me, it felt like Bankee just wanted to sell off their old kits and earn more profit, either way let's just hope for a better one next year, not on the business side of things but for Gundam community in the Philippines. Ranting aside, I bought this kit with together with the HG IBO Gundam Astaroth because I was so pissed with the event.

Anyway enough rants, let's head on with the review.

First off let's take a look at the box. Nice boxart with the titular movie on the top left corner, the name of the MS on the bottom center, and of course Bandai's logo on the bottom right.

Now we have the manual which features the Gunpla already built and already painted.

And on the back there are some details about some paint colors that you need. (If you're in painting kits)

There are also colored pages in the manual that includes additional info about the Sazabi and a short manga (both in Japanese T__T ).

Can someone tell me what this short manga is all about?

After an hour (or I guess less than an hour) of building, we have the SD Sazabi!

The build is quite an easy one just like all of the other SDs. Small nub marks, a decent amount of panel lining, and some parts that need to be painted. Luckily the Sazabi has an almost all red color scheme so the color separation in this kit is awesome.

Some parts need some panel lining to make them standout.

The accessories for the Sazabi are the Beam Shot Rifle, Beam Tomahawk (and its yellow beam effect part), the iconic Shield, and its funnels that are deployed and the ones stored in it's backapack. One of my favorite things about this SD kits is that the funnels have an effect part that you can attach to the backpack (more on that later).

Here's a closer look at the Sazabi's head. It's a simple build and needs some panel lining.

You can also move its mono-eye to different directions. (Which is really cool)

Though the head maybe awesome looking, one of my major gripe about this kit is the head. When placed in the body, you can't make the Sazabi look upward because the funnels on the backpack is pretty much in the way because of the helmet-like shape of the head.

Here's the chest and waist area. The waist are requires you to put two stickers that look pretty good.

The legs look decent as well, nice color separation on the knee and on the feet. You have to attach a sticker on the toe and it looks nice.

The backpack is pretty much the same with the MG and HG counterpart of this MS. It has the thrusters, funnels, and the fuel tanks (?) all in a dark-greyish color scheme.

The funnels can be detachable to make way for the effect parts.

Here' we have a closer look at the Beam Shot Rifle. Add red paints on the pipe looking parts to add more detail. Too bad this is just a two-piece part and it doesn't include the pumping shotgun-like function.

Here's the Shield with a large Neo Zeon logo in the center. It needs some panel lining to make it stand out. And you have to put the Neo Zeon logo on the center. (nailed it!)

He'res the Beam Tomahawk that is composed of a red piece that you have to attach stickers on to look cooler.

And here it is with the effect part.

One of the things that I like the most on this kits is this funnel effect part.

It attaches the three activated funnel parts.

And it can be attached on both funnel holder thingy on the backpack. If ever Bandai will make a new HGUC or an RG Sazabi, I hope they'll include funnel effect parts (no P-Bandai please).

Now for some (really few) poses.

CONS

  • Head and funnel parts are in each other's way.
  • Articulation is limited
  • A few parts are needed to be painted.
PROS
  • Easy build
  • Less nub marks
  • Stickers were fine
  • Panel lining is fun
  • A few parts are needed to be painted. (Yes that is both a pro and a con for me)
  • FUNNEL EFFECT PARTS

There's my review of the SD Sazabi. It's a simple build kit that needs a little detailing but also requires little detailing to make it look perfect. This SD kit is almost perfect but it really lacks (for me) articulation. Maybe the appearance itself makes it hard since the articulation is the main problem of its MG big brother. Ranting aside this is great kit for Sazabi and Char Aznable fans and a good display for your desk at work.

What do you think about the SD Sazabi? I hope I was able to help you if you're planning to buy one or not. Share your thoughts on the comments section below and stay tuned for some more reviews here in my blog!
